We all have needs, and all have wants. There are things that we need in life, and cannot go without, while there are others that we just really want. Lucky for us, the Lord provides for all of it!
James 1:17 makes it clear that “all good things come from God”. This means that all that we need comes from God, as He would not make us need something that wasn’t good. It also means that much of what we desire comes from God too, if what we desire is good, of course.
If that wasn’t clear enough, we are given Philippians 4:19, which states this.
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Whatever it is in life that we want or need, we can always trust in God, who provides it for us. Whether it’s peace, joy, money, safety, security, or health, we can know that the Lord provides for it.
However, God gives us specific verses and specific promises that promise specific provision. So today, we will be looking at many of the needs and desires in our lives, and finding specific verses that we can stand on when we need faith, and reassurance.
Finances
One of the greatest ways that God provides is in terms of our finances. This doesn’t just include our actual money, but also our jobs, careers, and promotions. He provides in each circumstance and takes care of all of our financial needs.
A few verses that we can stand on when it comes to needing financial and career provision are:
- “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).
- “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will be bursting with wine” (Proverbs 3:9-10).
- “For exaltation comes neither from the east, nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one and exalts another” (Psalm 75:6-7).
These are just a few of many verses that you can stand on when it comes to your career, promotions, or money. But there is a key thing to note here. Without faith in each of these instances, the Lord cannot provide. Our faith in His power and will to provide are still important here. We all ought to place our faith in Jesus and His supernatural financial provision.
Health
Our health is another major area where provision is both needed and desired. Without our bodies working properly and well, life is going to be much harder, including sharing the gospel. The Lord provides immensely here, and there are both scriptures and stories to prove this to us.
Here are a few healing and health verses to keep in your mind:
- ” But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).
- “(Jesus) who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24).
- “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 1:2).
Along with these awesome verses, we have countless stories and testimonies from both scripture and the Church, that display real healings. Evidently, it’s the Lord’s desire to heal us, and help us walk in good health.
These verses also support the trend that we have previously seen. God provides, and our faith is important to his provision. If we don’t have faith, we can’t ensure that He provides in every situation.
Either way, it’s clear that the Lord desires and longs to provide for us in the area of our health.
Security
One of the greatest ways that God’s provision is shown throughout scripture is by keeping his people safe and secure. My favorite story of this takes place in the book of Judges with Gideon and the 300-man army.
We read this story between Judges 6-8. It features a Judge, Gideon, who leads an army against a group called “the Midianites”. God tells Gideon that he shall take only 300 men to fight against the Midianites, and then the Lord said, “by the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand.” (Judges 7:7). Sure enough, that is what happened. In this story, the Lord provides protection, and security to the Israelites, and helps them win a fight against a much bigger army. He does that same thing for us as well.
Here are some more verses to help strengthen your faith, however.
- “Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler” (Psalm 91:3-4).
- “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).
- “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).
Joy
Have you ever heard “the joy of the Lord is my strength“? Well lucky for us, this one is a double whammy, because not only does the Lord provide for our joy, but that can be our strength too!
- “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).
- “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”” (Nehemiah 8:10).
We can rejoice in the Lord and feel great joy in Him, which in return, strengthens us in Him! What great news!
Salvation
We all know this one. Among all of the great things that God provides, He also provides us with salvation through his sacrifice on the cross, and his Spirit.
Fortunately for us, we have both the cross and his resurrection story to cling to, and there are many verses that show how God provides salvation for his people. Let’s look at a few!
- “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
- “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid” (Isaiah 12:2).
- “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).
These are just a few verses within an entire book that shows God providing salvation for his people.
Final Thoughts
Amongst all of the amazing verses and amazing stories in scripture, we are given promises of provision from God. These certainly include promises of provision for finances, health, and security, but are also not limited to just those basic things. There are many areas where God provides that we didn’t even mention.
Something that is important to note about every way that God provides has to do with faith. We must have faith and believe in the provision and promises in order for them to come to pass. Obviously, God works without us even realizing it, and He does all the work as He provides. But if we don’t invite God in, through faith in the promises, how are we to expect Him to work in each of these areas?
Therefore, I encourage you to mediate and spend time thinking about these verses. Let them strengthen and build up your faith in the Lord, and in his supernatural, amazing provision.
